King's Harvest Needs Our Help

King's Harvest, located in Davenport, Iowa is an animal rescue shelter that provides a warm and safe place to homeless pets. According to ASPCA, "approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, a;pproximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats." There are more that 200 million stray dogs worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. In our area alone there is an increasingly high population of cats. This was made quite clear to Danielle Harrell and I when we visited King's Harvest. Not only were we greeted at the door by stray cats, but we were also escorted throughout the building by them. How Domestic Violence Affected My Family

My past has not always been ugly, but when it was, it taught me more than I could ever comprehend at a young age. I wasn't born into a perfect marriage nor a perfect world. I learned from a very early age of the world's disappointments. My first and most life changing disappointment was my biological father.  The only real love he ever felt was for the bottom of his bottle. Anything that got in the way of his one true love would be beaten and thrown to the side like a pile of garbage.

Growing Up and Being Bullied

I was twelve years old and was entering into middle school. As many know, middle school can be a really awkward time in our lives. Not only was it awkward for me, it was scary and disheartening. Fellow classmates were not afraid to point out my buck teeth and were quick to greet me as "Beaver" when I stepped onto the bus.  I was constantly made fun of for my beliefs and dreams at a very young age. Growing up, it was incredibly hard for me to make friends due to the shame I received from fellow classmates.  Sadly, I was only one of many kids that was made fun of.
